So for a while now, Wordsmith and I have been arguing about the English Class and the possibility of having a promotions system. Those of you who have been on graphics forums will get what I'm talking about, but I believe that it's a first for a writing forum.

So here's the gist of it.

Right now, all of our libraries are organized by genre, right? Poetry, Fiction, Fantasy, Fanfiction, and Nonfiction.

My proposal is that in addition to organizing the Libraries by genre, we organize it by the writer's level.

QUOTE

Level 5
Level 4
Level 3
Level 2
Level1

You will have what is called an INDEX PAGE, or homepage. It'll sorta be like a Ramblings. There, you post links to stories you have written.

Each user will be ranked in levels according to if they pass or fail a tutorial. We will post up tutorials for you to submit to. Possible tutorials are Imagery, Dialouge, or Plot. (These aren't exhaustive). Every month, you can have another go at the tutorials. If you pass a certain number of tutorials, you can go up a level. Your index page will be moved to the next level.

All of the features that are currently available to users with high post counts will be available to everyone. Everyone will be able to access the Games, Ramblings, Graphics Shops, and Roleplay forums.

What do you say?

Sounds complex. D:

And I'm confused on how many tutorials we'd be able to try during a one month period.
(Considering we could retry the next month).

Wordsmith - February 10, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
I say we don't have Libraries by genre, only by level.

The level system sounds great ^_^ only when you'll put those genres in it then it's not really easy to see what's what.
I totally love your idea for the index page.

Wordy, you're right....maybe having two organized places is too much? I don't even think that that's possible...

I was thinking that within each level, there would be something like [SF] (Science Fiction) in each title to represent what genre it is.

Sabs, I don't really know how many tutorials we'd have. At least those three. (Imagery, Dialogue, Plot) I'd try to find more, three aren't enough.

What about having the "extra" forums be available to everyone? What do you guys think?

Oh! I like the idea of having those category notations in front of the topic title. I've seen that used very well, and it can be a nice tool - especially when you don't want to over-organize.

Ah. I see.
What about a 'character' tut? Like development, interactions; the character's personality itself...
Also, we could always make it fun and have a 'themed' tutorial for the month. ie: February could be a 'romance genre'. I don't know what we would have for the other months, however. xD;

Maybe just a special tutorial for each month that includes a genre? Like 'horror' for October, 'mystery' for March...

I also think a 'theme' tutorial (as in themes/life lessons within a writing work) could be added to the list.

And I'm personally not sure about making the extra forums viewable to use newbies. After all, I haven't even seen them.

Sedragore - February 10, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
Lol! You'll see them pretty soon, Vi!

ZOMG! Character development. That's the one I was missing...*jots down* Thank you SOSO much!

And I think that themes fit better under the Challenges forum. Personally, I know I can't write romance, or mystery without considerable planning. So I don't think everyone can write to the best of their ability in genres they haven't worked with.

I... did not follow. At all.

Sure. Sure, that'll work.

-is so lost-

Sedragore - February 11, 2008 01:03 AM (GMT)
Lol, basically the members will be ranked by their level of writing.

Okay. The tutorials so far are Imagery, Dialogue, Plot, Character Development.... any other suggestions? I think that's good...

The_Mighty_Spriter - February 14, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
Umm...okay...I still like th egenre thing...maybe, in the thread of the writing, you put the genre...

How do yo uadvance levels???

And while we're on a similar subject, I have an issue...umm...I write comedy. But comedy is not likely to get an award. Especially the short, humorous stories I write. I think there should be an award for best comedy, or something...

Nevermind, I'll raise this issue somewhere else, but right now I'm going to freak out the girl I asked out 3 times, acting like I'm going to do it again...Bwah.

Sedragore - February 14, 2008 05:46 PM (GMT)
Lol, if you can get at least two other people to second that, we can add a comedy genre.

Okay. Every month, you could have another go at the tutorials. If you pass the tutorials, you have a chance to advance levels. If you're good enough, especially in the first month of this, most people will move up multiple levels.

UPDATE: Guys, by a pretty solid consensus, we are going to use the Promotions system. Wordy and I are working on it right now. Our deadline is May 1st... the system will be ready then. The Library section might be down for a few minutes on the 1st while we transfer your galleries. Just a heads-up.
